Purpose of the role

To provide essential support to our clients by assisting them to complete specific forms to obtain income due to their limited capability for work and/or for the extra costs of a long term health condition or disability.  This role is critical in providing practical support to a diverse local community


For this role we are looking for volunteers who can offer at least 6 hours a week for 9 months, initially on Fridays

Main duties and activities will include:

  • Complete induction and training including observation of the role
  • Interview clients to assist with completion of forms: the Employment and Support Allowance Form 50 and the Personal Independence Payment Form 2.
  • Contact third parties to obtain information, as appropriate.
  • Research advice using our information system and caselaw.
  • Consult with supervisors
  • Write up records of interviews
  • Follow up clients to ascertain the outcomes of advice

  • Understanding of the needs of clients who have physical and mental health issues

  • Able to work accurately and with attention to detail
  • Able to work constructively as part of a team
  • Understand the issues affecting society and their implications for clients
  • Keep confidentiality
